Surf City
Huntington Beach, or “Surf City” as it is known colloquially, is a fantastic destination for surf and sun lovers. The city is located approximately an hour south of Los Angeles, yet it has a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere. Huntington Beach is well known as a surfing destination, where you will always be able to spot someone catching a wave offshore.

The city is quite wealthy, having accumulated much of its wealth during the oil boom of the early 1900s. The shore was once lined with oil drills but these have now been replaced with clear views of a palm tree-lined promenade and walking paths which run along over 8 miles alongside the coastline.

Huntington Beach is home to attractions including the International Surfing Museum, the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve (the biggest coastal wetland reserve in California) and the famous Huntington Pier. Take a walk along the miles of seaside walking paths, or along the pier to watch the sunset with the hundreds of beachgoers who flock here year-round for the pleasant climate.

The nightlife here will also not disappoint, with beachside bonfires and plenty of dining opportunities along the main street. Huntington Beach offers a great alternative to Los Angeles as a smaller and more relaxed atmosphere with the fun and excitement of the big city.
